Dick pics on Twitter or love children, might force resignation for some politicians, but for others, a scandalous sexual history is just a way to make a name for yourself before entering the political arena. Remember porn star Mary Carey’s run for Governor of California in the 2003 recall election? Oh, and her 2006 bid for Lieutenant Governor?
Before you roll your eyes and think, Only in California, let me introduce Diana Pang of China. The 40-year-old former softcore porn star, who is known by her stage name “Peng Dan” in Hong Kong, is the latest to follow the path from porn to politics.
As Peng Dan, she appeared in films with spicy titles like “The Six Devil Women,” “Erotic Ghost Story” and “Evil Instinct.” She retired from softcore porn 10 years ago.
But in late January, Pang was spotted in the Chinese provence Gansu leaving the legislative advisory board, Chinese People’s Political Consultive Congress. Her political role will also revolve around film, albeit a different genre than her claim to fame (what the Wall Street Journal‘s blog called “patriotic period films”). She said her family ties to politics and the Red Army spurred her interest in working in the film industry from the other side of the camera.
We know some people find it objectionable for teachers to have an “adult” past. But how do we feel about politicians?
